POSITION TITLE: Scholarship and Financial Aid Specialist

STATUS: Non-Exempt

STANDARD HOURS: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday (Occasional Evenings and Weekends)

REPORTS TO: Manager of Scholarship Services and Financial Aid

ASSIGNED TO: Scholarship Services and Financial Aid

Position Summary:

The Scholarship and Financial Aid Specialist coordinates, manages, and evaluates activities related to College Now's scholarship maintenance and administration.

Essential Functions:

1. Coordinate scholarship process for various Traditional, Adult Learner, and Managed scholarship funds.

Tasks include but are not limited to:
a) Assist in creating scholarship program descriptions and applications.
b) Process scholarship applications and collect and process submitted documentation.
c) Evaluate and rank scholarship applications based on various scoring rubrics and select scholarship recipients.
d) Notify all scholarship applicants of scholarship decisions.
e) Process and electronically file scholarship renewal documentation.
f) Follow up with scholarship recipients missing renewal documents.
g) Process scholarship payments and refunds.

2. Provide excellent customer service to scholarship recipients and scholarship applicants to answer questions and assist students in completing applications and renewing scholarships. This includes the use of in person communication, phone communication, mailings, emails and social media.

3. Work with College Now's Accounting Department to ensure scholarship awards match scholarship dollars available. Maintain current fund reconciliation/account information and provide reconciliation of each fund monthly and at the end of each fiscal year.

4. Train the College Now advising staff on the scholarship criteria, recommendation and submission process.

Additional Responsibilities:

1. Occasional evening and weekend hours and travel required.

2. Perform other duties as required.


Bachelor's degree preferred in College Student Personnel, Education or related field. Working knowledge of all government and state regulations, policies and programs related to financial aid is preferred. Experience in a higher education environment related to admission, scholarship administration, financial aid; or a background in college counseling or college access is strongly preferred. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, as well as strong organizational and analytical skills. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends, if necessary. Proficient in Microsoft Office.
